Thin and polished section preparation laboratory

In this laboratory, thin and polished sections are prepared for optical mineralogy and mineralography courses. At first, the sample of the desired rock is prepared and is cut according to the type of its minerals (minerals that form the texture of rocks or ores) and then a thin or polished section is prepared for studying using transmission or reflective light, respectively. The tools and materials used in this laboratory include table saw, coarse, medium and soft abrasive powder, sanding in different meshes, and polish section abrasive machine.
